'Always check for a ring': Waiter accidentally ruins surprise proposal

In case you were planning a restaurant engagement for your beloved, here's your sign to be extra careful who you tell about your plans.

When you decide to pop the question to your loved one, you should already be 100% sure they'll say "yes" to your question. If you're not 100% sure, make sure you find out first, especially if you're planning to propose in a public setting. Then, once you're sure, you've got to plot out the other aspects of the night. You need your S.O.'s best friend to take them out to get their nails and hair done, as well as to convince them to wear a gorgeous outfit. You've got to get yourself a nice outfit, secure the ring safely on your person somewhere innocuous, and rehearse your script before explaining to this person how much you adore them. It's a lot of planning and effort that all goes into one big proposal, and if all goes to plan, your babe will be showing off that ring for decades to come.

We all know that proposals don't always go smoothly, though — trust me, there are like a million videos of all the mishaps that can happen to a couple. In some, a dog runs through the frame, or a person wanders cluelessly in front of the tripod just as the dude is bending the knee, or sometimes a kid will interrupt the sweet moment. Sometimes, weather issues make proposing hard, or family members get too excited and dim the moment for the couple.

However, this couple's proposal was foiled by the waitstaff at this restaurant. Wait — scratch that. Can the waitstaff be blamed for a man's decision to tell the restaurant ahead of time about said proposal? If and when I'm in this position someday, I would never trust the waitstaff at a restaurant to keep quiet a proposal. First of all, that's not their job! Second of all, what difference does that make, anyway? You can just call up a restaurant and ask for the nicest seat in the house (and throwing in a few extra dollars to the host or hostess in person, a few days in advance, could solidify this choice). Once you actually pop the question, the other diners around you will probably cheer, and that will prompt the waitstaff to bring you a special drink or dessert to share. Truly, why tell them ahead of time and risk ruining a perfect moment?

This guy has only himself to blame… but also, let's leave restaurant proposals in the past, unless you've chosen a really impressive dining spot. There are a bajillion beautiful places in the world, and you choose an eatery? It's a personal choice, of course. Too bad that this dude can't take back or redo his choices… See if you side with him, or with the waitstaff, in the story below.
